We emailed Liliana from NZ with some ideas of what we wanted to do. She made a couple of recommendations, one being visit Hoang Su Phi and stay the night with a local Dao family. The trek in was so breath-taking, rice terraces, water falls, locals working in the fields or herding buffalo. The overnight stay with the family was magical. We had the most amazing guide and driver. The roads in Ha Giang are in pretty rough shape but that all added to the adventure but I am glad we had a skilled driver and a 4 wheel drive. September is near the end of the rainy season so lots of water falls and the rice is ripe for harvesting so very beautiful and you saw the harvesting in action. Because we had our guide we got invited in to some local houses en route for tea, the most basic conditions but the people are truly so amazingly friendly. Ha Giang Province is really going back in time, the markets are incredible. Before we started this trip we went to the Sunday market in Bac Ha and got there at 6am, the photographic opportunities were amazing and up until about 9 were pretty much the only tourists there. So we were met by our guide Giang and our driver at 8am and our 5 day adventure began, Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang city, Yen Minh, Pho Bang and Pho Cao, Lung Cu, Dong Van, Meo Vac, back to Ha Giang City via a loop road through Cao Bang. Over night there and then back to Hanoi. A great combination of site seeing, trekking, wandering, photo taking. There is a lot of driving but the scenery is just amazing and you stop a lot. Distance wise it doesn't look far but because the roads are so full of pot holes, slips, minor flooding it takes a long time. In fact when ever we wanted a photo our driver would stop, sometimes in really difficult places because of the narrow and rough roads. There were no extras at all in the price except for evening meals which we knew about. Always fresh water in the car, we stopped to pick fruit from trees or buy fruit at a road side market. We had a million questions and our guide answered them all even sharing with us what life was like for him and his family when he was younger. Practically Liliana did a great job, I would highly recommend her and Custom Travel. My husband and I are fairly fit 58 year olds and found all the hikes doable. My husband also had his birthday on the day we stayed with the local Dao family and Liliana had even organised a huge cake, how they got it there I really don't know, over and above the call of duty!! The family we stayed with had a 4 year old so we took some gifts including a book and a soft Kiwi which they loved. I also took a booklet with pages and pages of stickers which I could rip out to give to the children, their responses were so lovely and it gave us an opportunity to talk with them or kick a ball around. Please don't take sweets, there is already evidence of tooth decay in some children. Very good value and an amazing adventure. Cooler temperatures than Hanoi and south, around 23 Celsius and even lower on occasions, you do need a jacket.

My husband happened to find Custom Vietnam Travel while searching the internet. After receiving a quote we thought this seems too good to be true for a custom, private tour for the two of us. Being skeptical I searched the internet for reviews of the company and confirmed that it was legitimate and had incredible reviews. We booked our custom trip shortly after and worked with a lovely lady called Julie Bui. She managed to fit everything we wanted to do in the ten days we had. It was very busy, so we opted out of a few activities just to relax, we changed a hotel in Sa Pa and upgraded our room on the Halong Bay cruise, all for minimal extra cost. Julie met us at our hotel in Hanoi with a little gift bag and a cell phone with hers and all the guides’ numbers installed. We had the use of this phone for our whole trip. She called the guide everyday to make sure we were happy. Our trip started in Hanoi, Sa Pa, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Hue and ended in Saigon with a trip out to the Mekong Delta. One of our requests was to sample as much Vietnamese food as we could. So from a street food tour in Hanoi to various restaurants with local fare they certainly fulfilled that request. Our guides Bien, Tung and Lee were all the friendliest of people and had great knowledge areas. We really had an amazing time and could recommend Custom Vietnam Travel and Julie Bui as the number one tour company to use.

We just came back from a 6D5N trip from Hanoi, Sapa, Bac Ha, and Mu Cang Chai. We arranged our private tour through Ms. Minh Ninh of Custom Vietnam Travel. Our communication with Minh was nothing but perfection. She was quick to respond to my inquiries and put together a draft itinerary for review. We made a few tweaks here and there, all with quick turnaround. Minh is a great communicator, and she understood my needs and did her best to accommodate my travel requests as well as lodging arrangements and food allergies. She left no room for error and I was very pleased with all the arrangements and recommendations she made for us. Since photography is my hobby, I wanted a driver or tour guide who is also a photography enthusiast and knows good locations for pictures taking. To my delight, our driver loves photography, and he came with a camera bag. Both of us enjoyed extra photo stops along the way to take breathtaking pictures of the terraced rice fields. The driver is a “mountain specialist.” He navigated all the twists and turns of the mountain road while we conquered the O Quy Ho Pass and Khau Pha Pass. Our tour guide Giang speaks fluent English and is very knowledgeable about Northern Vietnam in general and all the places we were going to visit in particular. He is an athlete and often leads cross-country cycling tours. He motivated me when I was about to give up those long treks and was nothing but patient and helpful. I don’t think I could have finished a four hour trek in MCC, a two hour trek in Sapa, 600 steps to the Fansipan summit or the 500 steps to Mua Cave in Ninh Binh. If it wasn’t for his patience, kindness, and encouragement, I don’t think I would have covered all the places we wanted to visit. We were also very pleased with the hotel choices included in our tour package. We spent two nights at the Silk Path Hanoi Hotel where we were offered “welcome pho” on our arrival day. We then spent one night at the Silk Path Sapa with breakfast included. Our Homestay in the ethnic Thai village of MCC was very good, too. The place was built just two years ago. It is clean, well-kept and comfortable. We also liked the food there. Then we spent a night at the Bac Ha Lakeview Homestay. Again, excellent choice with clean facilities, good food, and superb hospitality. The location was a block or two away from the Bac Ha Sunday market. While having breakfast in the dining hall, we saw people passing by with water buffalo and horses on their way to the animal market. We will definitively come back next year and would enlist Minh’s help in organizing our private tour and will request for the same driver and tour guide. The one thing that I like the most was when Minh met us at our hotel on our first night. She went over the itinerary and loaned us a cell phone with a local SIM card so we could reach out to them should we need assistance. What I appreciated most was when she said to leave everything to her and her team so we could enjoy our holiday worry free. To me, that was what I was hoping to hear and at that exact moment I knew we were in good hands.

This was the most amazing country for the people, places and scenery. Our tour specialist Ms. Minh Ninh managed to get us private guideed tours showing us all the highlights of their beautiful country. Minh took in all considerations to make this a fantastic life experience I am sure she even controlled the weather as it was perfect. The hotels, home stays and meals were all excellent including our street food tour. It is always a pleasure when you plan a trip with a company and it turns out better than you ever expected. She organized the trip listening to our preferences and giving her opining based on her knowledge and experience. We didn't had that too much time to visit all we wanted: Ho Chi Min and Mekong Delta, Hanoi, Nin Binh, Sapa and Halong Bay. She perfectly organized a private mini van with driver and guide in each of the places we visited, which made us save a lot of time and get good information about the places. She also organized for us excursions with bikes or hiking in the different locations, overnights in boats at Mekong Delta and Halong Bay,... everything to make our trip more interesting and enjoyable. Vietnam is an amazing country, but we wouldn't have such a nice trip without Liliana. She is a 10!!! We certainly would recommend this travel agency.

We had a very pleasant experience with Rosie, our agent from custom Vietnam travel. We had 7D6N trip from Hanoi, Bac ha, Sapa town to terraced rice field and overnight halong bay cruise on dragon legend junk cruise. She prompt in her replies and give very good recommendations on hotels and halong bay cruise according to our needs. We are very satisfied with the accomodations. She was also thoughtful enough to include a visit to colourful wet market in Bac Ha by Hmong tribal group on the only Sunday we have during the trip. The market is only held on Sundays. It was an interesting experience. The driver they hired for us is always early and punctual. It would have been more perfect if the tour guide was more prepared for rainy days. We were caught off guard by the rain. I think the guide has forgotten to provide us umbrellas and raincoats. Hence, we have to scramble to look for our used disposable raincoats as we only brought 1 small umbrella with us. There were 4 of us.

great 3d trip organized by Custom Vietnam Travel !! Julie was our main contact and helped us with professional advice and a perfect organization. Both our driver and guide were great people: stopped at every interesting place and they were very flexible and knowledgable about anything going on in Mu Cang Chai. We learned a lot about tea, cinnamon, rice, the hmong people, and other ethnic populations. I highly recommend the trip as part of any Vietnam travel and I would not do it with any other agency than with Custom Vietnam Travel!

We booked all our Vietnam tour through Julie at Custom Travel. Five stars to her alone. Her communication prior and after the trip has been very thorough. I cannot say anything bad about the 18 day tour. Everything was spot on. Guides, drivers, food (too much) and accommodation of which Julie changed a couple of times due to bad reports. Every thing ran like clock work. The only thing we were disappointed in and it was our choice to do an over night train trip - don't do it.! Facilities, toilet not good! Custom travel quoted a price and stuck to it and they did not request any further funds due to hotel changes. Well done Julie and the team at Custom Vietnam travel.
